Plan for the out-of-pocket amount.
Understand the treatment estimate, payment options and repayment cost before considering a small loan for medical or dental bills.

Get an itemised estimate
Ask the provider what is included and what additional tests, appointments or follow-up could cost. Confirm any Medicare or private insurance benefit directly with the relevant provider or insurer. A loan does not confirm that a treatment or claim is covered.
Ask about other payment options
Discuss a payment arrangement with the provider and check any fees. Eligible No Interest Loans can cover medical and dental costs without interest or fees. Check eligibility and how the invoice would be paid.
Allow for changes in income
Recovery time and repeat appointments can change the budget. Consider essential expenses and existing debts as well as the loan repayment. If a bill exceeds the planned $2,000 paid limit, make a plan for the remainder first.
